Say what?

Since this blog serves as Nathan's official baby book, I wanted to make sure I recorded another exciting moment that I'm afraid I'll forget if I don't put it in writing.

It feels like Nathan's been talking forever... his first words "Baba" and "Dada" came at right around 7 months. At first it was one word. Then he could strong two together. And now I can't even count how many words he can say. It seems like he just has to hear a word once and he can repeat it, over and over. Another recent milestone is that he's been using his possessive tense: "Nathan's shoes", "Daddy's coat", "Mommy's coffee".

But the other day he strung together 4 words.
4 words that had a purpose.
4 words that expressed exactly what he wanted.

"Mama, more cheese please."

He didn't point in the general direction of the kitchen and whine until I magically figured out what he wanted.
He didn't stand in front of the fridge and let me point to everything until I got to the one thing he wanted.
He didn't say "Eat" over and over and then reject every single thing I offered him.

He wanted cheese and he asked me for it.
Politely.
Big day for us...big day.

In the words of Gloria Gaynor

There is a lot going on in the Chenivan household these days.

Nathan is simultaneously:
Entering the terrible twos
Learning the word No
Cutting his two year molars

I WILL SURVIVE....right???

Back to reality

Yesterday I was lounging by a pool, in a bathing suit, and it was 75 degrees out.

Today I hung around our apartment, in my pajamas, and it was 35 degrees out.

But Nathan rocked the straw hat we brought him home from the Bahamas so it was still a pretty good day.

Drink your vegetables!

In the past few weeks, I've gotten slightly obsessed with juicing. After reading about a 3-day cleanse on TheDailyJulie I decided to give it a try. For 3 days, you drink juice and only juice. No coffee, no soda, no cereal for breakfast or sandwiches for lunch. It's juice, the whole juice and nothing but the juice.

It was definitely intense but not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. It made me feel great knowing that for 72 hours, the only thing I was digesting was fresh fruit and vegetables. Nothing processed. No alcohol. No caffeine. Not to mention I was eating tons of healthy food that I don't normally eat on a regular basis (shame on me.)

Out of the 3 juices, the green one was actually my favorite which was surprising because most people think it's the worst tasting one. It has the most veggies though so bonus points for me actually liking it best! The first few sips definitely left me with a "I'm drinking parsley" reaction but after a while it really grew on me and tasted more like lemonade.

Now I realize the 3 day cleanse is intense and not something I should put my body through too often, so as an alternative I have been making a day's worth just once a week and drinking it for breakfast and using it as a "snack." Instead of turning to chips or cookies or crackers, I pour myself a big glass of beautiful green juice.

My partner in crime has decided he loves the green juice as well. I can barely pour myself a glass in the morning before he's chanting "Juice, juice, juice" over and over. Nathan's a great eater but when it comes to vegetables, he is the worst. The only ones we can get him to eat are:

Tomatoes - which are technically a fruit
Sweet potatoes - which are technically a starch
Edamame-  which are technically a bean

Maybe it's the excitement over suddenly being able to drink juice, something we very rarely give him. I don't care what the reason is, I just love watching him chug a glass full of celery, cucumbers, kale, parsley, lemons and apples. I assume any parent would find great joy in watching their child do this!

Bottom's up Nathan!
